Position Overview
The School of Communication at The Ohio State University invites applications for a 9-month full time position at the rank of associate professor or professor, with tenure, to begin August 2026. We seek a distinguished scholar and educator to provide leadership for our undergraduate journalism program. The program, comprising approximately 150 majors, is recognized for its innovative integrated approach to print, online, and video news coverage. A successful applicant will have demonstrated interests, commitments, and preferably experience in journalism and journalism education across print, broadcast, and online platforms. This individual will be instrumental in guiding the journalism program, contributing to decision-making for the award-winning Lantern Media Group, and advancing our integrated approach while preparing students for the evolving news landscape, particularly with the advent of AI-supported news production. A rigorous research program is required, with a focus on journalism (e.g., data journalism) or closely related areas such as public opinion, audience analytics, science communication, or media economics. The ability to teach courses related to journalism or journalism-adjacent topics is also expected.
Performance Objectives
Maintain a strong research agenda
Advise and mentor graduate students
Teach and mentor undergraduate students in journalism and adjacent areas
Contribute to curriculum and student preparation for a changing media landscape
Contribute to leadership of the undergraduate journalism program
Contribute to decision making for the Lantern Media Group

Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: Candidates must be trained in communication or a closely aligned field and show promise of developing a national and international reputation for doing theory-based empirical research. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. prior to August 2026.
Desired: Preference is given to applicants with a demonstrated record of publication in peer-reviewed journals as well as evidence of effective teaching. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to building an inclusive intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values.
