Description

The Director of Reserving is responsible for overseeing all reserving functions at Ally Insurance.  The Director is the primary contact for Senior Leadership on all incurred but not reported (IBNR) reserve and unearned premium reserve (UPR) runoff related matters.  The Director is involved in communicating reserve positions to the Reserve Committee and Senior Leadership as well as communicating and working collaboratively across multiple departments throughout the organization.  The Director is also the key contact for the Actuarial department in the Business Planning and Forecasting processes, of which the Actuarial department is a key contributor.

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise the Reserving Team
• Provide Senior Leadership with actuarially reasonable estimates of IBNR
  • Quarterly for all lines of business
  • Monthly for Wholesale Weather losses as applicable given weather activity
• Provide Senior Leadership with actuarially reasonable estimates of the run-off of the unearned premium reserve
• Be the actuarial lead for the business planning and forecasting processes
• Provide reserving input on risks
  • Reinsurance purchases
  • Support management reporting in conjunctions with Ally risk management procedures
• Provide management with reasonable estimates for reinsurance commutations
• Supervise and approve all actuarial contributions to financial reporting, including both GAAP and Statutory statements, including Schedule P
• Support development of associates in an actuarial and business capacity and according to Ally vision and mission statement

Qualifications

• Associate or Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society
• Member of the American Academy of Actuaries
• Qualified to issue Property and Casualty Statements of Actuarial Opinion
• Strong communication and relationship building skills
• Ability to adapt to change quickly and to easily adjust priorities as necessary and appropriate
• High level of problem-solving capability and research-oriented skills
• Well-organized and detail-oriented work ethic
• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, or related field
• Skilled at associate development
• Proven leadership capability
• Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis
