Founded in 2007, Academy for Precision Learning (APL) is an inclusive K-12 school serving neurodiverse learners in an inclusive, academically challenging, and socially vibrant environment.

Our Model

APL pairs personalized education with behavioral supports within a classroom setting. Core to APL’s model is the integration of comprehensive, evidence-based clinical services, innovative educational programming, and tiered behavioral supports to ensure neurodiverse students

experience social-emotional development and academic success. To implement this mission, the Roots Clinic provides ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis therapy) within APL’s classrooms, providing a critical support system that empowers students to meaningfully access their educational experience.

The Roots Clinic at APL is licensed by the Department of Health, Division of Behavioral Health Resources as a Licensed Behavioral Health Agency to deliver ABA services. This provides an additional layer of quality control for clinical services and helps streamline our practices at both the departmental level and the individual provider level.

APL serves 100+ children K-12 and has exciting ambitions to grow and support the huge demand for its unique educational model. Throughout this growth, APL has maintained a tight knit community. This includes our families as well as our learners and staff. Community building does not stop after the school day. After school clubs, parent events, and volunteer opportunities augment student life and family connections.

The Position

APL is seeking a Clinic Director to provide compassionate leadership and innovate program development for its ABA therapy department, the Roots Clinic. This person will drive interdisciplinary collaboration across academic and clinic teams in support of APL’s mission and values. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Clinic Director is part of APL’s senior leadership team.

The Clinic Director will:

  • Lead and direct daily operations of the clinic
    • Facilitate clear lines of communication between BCBAs, BTS, and other team members
    • Provide clinical mentorship and consultation to staff
    • Prioritize interdisciplinary relationships across clinic and academic teams
  • Lead and direct the operational and financial performance of the Roots Clinic
    • Co-manage department budget with finance leadership
    • Track utilization, key performance indicators, revenue actuals to budget, and other productivity measures
    • Act on the data to meet budget goals
  • Ensure the proper implementation of healthcare laws and regulations
  • Develop strategies to grow the clinic’s client base and service offerings

This person adheres to and promotes professional standards of behavior, including ethical principles, sensitivity to a diverse patient population, timely and accurate billing, clear clinical documentation that is consistent with regulatory and compliance requirements. They model demonstration of continual expansion of expertise, based on relevant psychosocial, developmental, and educational needs of learners.

 Position details:

  • Salary Range: $100,000-$130,000
  • Clinic size: ~100 clients; 15-20 master’s level staff; 60-75 floor staff
  • Department budget: ~6 million

  • Experienced in managing a multi-year departmental budget

  • Fluent in logistical caseload direction and problem solving

About the role:

  • Supervises the hiring and firing process for all new clinical staff including
  • Participates in onboarding, delineation, and assignment of staff
  • In consultation/collaboration with HR, implements training curriculum for new staff and monitors performance of all clinical staff on an ongoing basis. Maintains current and effective training policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and manages operating metrics and performance indicators established for clinic, including team member recruitment, new client intake-to-services, scheduled treatment hours, target billable hours for clinicians, and other operational and financial
  • Holds regular department meetings to address program development and performance
  • Participates in admissions process year-round, with an increase in time and focus during late winter and early spring.
  • Works collaboratively to ensure that topics related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and family engagement and support are infused throughout Roots Clinic and APL.

  • Provides all-staff and departmental trainings regularly and as
  • Designs, directs, and supervises systems to ensure that consistent supervision and management happens across all clinic positions, increasing and maintaining staff productivity to levels required by the departmental budget.
  • Designs, directs, and oversees systems to ensure high quality of treatment, including but not limited to assessment, intervention planning, treatment delivery, data collection, progress monitoring, and progress reporting.
  • Maintains all agency licenses and certifications in a timely manner; direct systems to ensure all individual licenses and certifications are kept up to date.
  • Maintains all funder / payor credentialing and contracting; liaise with financial team and third-party billing agency proactively to ensure billing processes and targets are executed, and either met or exceeded.
  • Reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors routinely and as needed.

Had you been with us last month you would have:

  • Built the financial and operating plan for the clinic across the 2022/3 school year in collaboration with the Directors of Finance and Human Resources
  • Presented the results of billing improvements and resource allocation to the Board of Directors
  • Met with staff and hosted a series of round tables to talk about recent and upcoming changes and growth efforts for our organization
  • Connected with peers in clinics serving children with autism across the country and beyond to share trends, best practices, and learnings
  • Met with parents as a follow up to findings from a survey on family experiences with their child’s clinical team at APL to exchange ideas about how to make the performance more impactful



  • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis or related discipline, current BCBA certification, and current status as a Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA) in the state of Washington
  • At least ten years of experience working with children with ASD across the ages of 5 to 18, including at least five years of post-graduate, full-time experience in an ABA clinical setting working as a clinician (BCBA or BCaBA level)
  • At least three years of experience as a clinical director or similar role in an ABA clinical setting
  • Demonstrated experience as an interdisciplinary collaborator and facilitator of team- based approaches to supporting children and families
  • Demonstrated experience managing compliance and insurance contracting and billing

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in clinical or school psychology, with specialization in applied behavior analysis or a closely related field
  • Graduate degree from an ABAI fully accredited department
  • Experience supervising a multidisciplinary team including behavior analysts, mental health service providers, and related services such as Speech-Language Pathology and Occupational Therapy
  • At least three years of experience working in school settings
  • At least three years of experience working in interdisciplinary clinical settings that have conducted joint assessment and intervention treatment plans for children and families
